   VETERANS DAY CELEBRATION
Richardson Rotary Club celebrated Veterans Day with more than thirty Veterans attending as guests of the club. Guest meals were provided by sponsoring club members and local businesses. American Legion Post 321 provided the Color Guard. Michael Borts, Dallas Mavericks soloist, sang the Star Spangled Banner and Veterans of all branches of the military were recognized for their service.
A special program was presented that included a presentation by club member Jim Rodriguez (USAF Master Sgt., retired). The presentation highlighted The F.L.A.G. Program (flagprogram.org) which was founded by Jim Rodriguez with the mission to teach proper flag etiquette and history to elementary school children. The program has been successfully adopted by schools in three states and will be implemented in all Richardson (RISD) schools in the fall of 2020.
Club member Becky Poynter, spouse of Ron Poynter (U.S. Army, retired) was recognized for her leadership in the development and passage of the Military Spouse Residency Relief Act which was signed in to law on Veterans Day ten years prior (2009). The bill provides protections to military spouses, with regards to voting, property and taxes.
